BLYTHE Dressed By 60 Designers

An Exhibition Imagined For PRET A PORTER PARIS

The September 2006 issue of Pret A Porter, Paris presented an exhibition of Blythe dolls including a catwalk show of these unique pieces.

For a long time the BLYTHE doll, born in 1972, interested only collectors (children finding their eyes too scary). Then in 1997, the photographer Gina Garan received one as a gift from a friend who thought it resembled her a little. From there started an incredible story of friendship. Video and television producer Gina took Blythe with her each time she travelled, photographing her all over the world...
In 1999 she presented the doll to Junko Wong (CWC), and in June 2001 the first Neo-Blythes were designed by CWC and manufactured by Takara. The launching of the Neo-Blythes was carried out in association with an exhibition of Gina Garan's photos. In 2000 she published her first book of photographs of the dolls 'This is Blythe' (Chronicle Books), followed by 'Blythe Style' and soon 'Blythe Moment'.

Since 2001, a great number of designers have dressed the dolls:
Valentine, Versace, Prada, Sonia Rykiel, Gucci, Vivienne Westwood, Dolce & Gabanna, Marni, Christian Dior, John Galliano, Paco Rabanne, Issey Miyake ...
The exhibition at PAPP showed 60 dolls dressed by designers in total freedom, embodying just what makes French fashion what it is: that mix of styles, diversity and total liberty of creation:

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada / Jean Paul Knott / Christian Lacroix / Chantal Thomass / Cacharel / Dice Kayek / Lutz / Paul & Joe / By Malene Birger / Fred Sathal / Anne Huybens / Anne Willi / Burfitt / Cathy Pill / Corinne Cobson / Katherine Pradeau / Paule Ka / Delphine Charlotte Parmentier / Servane Gaxotte / Gustavo Lins / Ken Okada / Delphine Murat / Repetto / Lefranc Ferrant / Antik Batik / Sandrine Philippe / Elsa Esturgie / Gaelle Barre / Vannina Vesperini / Andre / Gilles Dufour / Isabelle Ballu / Jerôme L'Huillier / Veronique Leroy / Martin Grant / Emily The Strange / Kanabeach / Combhard / Zuwa / Clara Collins / Michel Klein / Marion Hanania / Les jolies Choses / Laurent Mercier / Impasse de la Defense / Philipp Plein / Hannoh H+ / Darja Richter / Leonard / Sakina M'Sa / Lady Soul / Modafusion / Lutin & Lucie Plane / Paco Chicano / Anne Fontaine...

It was the very first time that these dolls have made an appearance in Europe, France or Paris. The exhibition will continue at the Junie Moon Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo, before being auctioned in Tokyo in June 2007 in aid of charitable organizations.
